Bubble Wrap® Appreciation Day (January 26)

On a 1957 New Jersey day, Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes were working to create a textured wall covering by laminating two plastic sheets with air bubbles trapped inside. While that concept did not ever fully take hold, the idea was the beginning of a unique and impactful packaging invention…Bubble Wrap®.

 Sealed Air Corporation was founded in 1960 and thus began the iconic popping sound, and top-notch protection for valuable materials being shipped worldwide. Since that day in New Jersey, Sealed Air has been the innovator in the packaging material space. They have added mailing bags, foam rolls, inflatable bubbles, air pillows, paper fiber-based packaging and more. Their Instapak Foam-in-place system has provided millions of packages with the ability to get to their destination while kept in a contained and customized protective shell.

As stated by Byron Racki, Sealed Air President of Global Protective Packaging, “What started as a creative experiment has become a global standard for protection. Today, we continue that legacy by developing high performance, effective solutions that ensure our customers’ products reach their destination safely and efficiently every time.” The name Bubble Wrap® is so well known, it is used for other brands that do not have the nylon barrier protection offered by Sealed Air.  There is only one Bubble Wrap®!
